Housing & Stability
We're developing transitional and supportive housing so veterans and their families have a stable place to land while they plan what comes next.
In a matter of months, a service member can go from a base address, a unit, and a clear chain of support to finding a place to live, making sense of earned benefits, and building a new circle of people, all at the same time. Spouses, children, and surviving family members carry that weight too.
BVM exists so no one works through that alone. We're building a community that shows up, with practical help on housing and benefits, and with people who understand what service asks of a family.

I started Because Veterans Matter because of the men in my life who served across different branches of the military. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to understand more of what they carried—the mental health struggles, the pressure of being Black men, and the weight of being veterans. Those struggles reached beyond them. They affected our families and shaped generations.
I think about how different things could have been if the resources available to them had been better understood, talked about more openly, and easier to navigate. What could that support have meant for their healing, for stability in our households, and for the generations coming behind them?
For me, this story stretches back through countless generations of Black Americans who served a country that did not always treat them equally or fully recognize their sacrifice. That history is personal. So is this mission.
I founded BVM to help veterans and their families understand what support is available and build a stronger future. This is near and dear to my heart—because veterans matter, and so do the families carrying their legacy.
— Liddia Wells, Founder, Because Veterans Matter
BVM is being shaped by the people it's for. Members bring what they've lived through and what they know, whether that's a PCS move, a VA claim, a mortgage, or a hard first year out, and they help decide what we build next.
